Hello Gorgeous, and yes I mean YOU. Today's topic; Body Positivity .
As most of you know in today's world we are completely surrounded by standards set up by our society. From our head to our hearts in some way shape or form we have been told how to be or how to feel. We're constantly compared and judged be it on the streets, on social media, or even by ourselves. It's true, in some ways we all find ourselves in a constant comparison of our worth. Often times we even see ourselves less than human because we in some ways try to obtain perfection; Barbie. Nothing wrong with being the best you, but I feel size has been deemed a factor of this for far to long. The size of our jeans does not define the size of our hearts or our minds. Truth is, for many years I struggled with my own body image. I believed I wasn't beautiful. I believed starving myself was sexy. I believed the only way to find love or a social life was to strive to be societies idea of perfection. I never took the time to embrace my individuality, I was far to focused on being what I thought the world wanted me to be.
Throughout the years those ideas have changed, and this year has been the biggest year of change in the self love department. I began curvy modeling three months after I had my son. Shocked I had even been selected , I knew it's exactly what I needed to see myself in a new light; literally. Week after week images were released and I have finally been able to see myself for what I am; a size 10-12. Hearing the positive feedback from multiple women who have expressed their stories, I now realize I actually relate to more women then I ever felt I have. I've finally learned how to dress and even have learned that the curvy section typically starts at a size 12 at most retailers. No wonder I felt "nothing ever fit" I was totally shopping in the wrong section. I've found ways to rock my curves and no longer be ashamed; I feel accepted. I love who I am and what I stand for. No longer do I have anxiety attacks about "what to wear" or find myself crying for hours about the numbers on the scale. This is me. I am proud of who I am, and you should be as well. NONE of us went to the store and chose our bodies, we were each given them as a gift. Besides nobody can see what size were wearing, it's only on the inside. Truthfully; size doesn't matter.
Society in ways I feel is changing. More platforms are on the rise speaking about being body positive, and loving ones self. People are starting to own their curves and know their worth. It's rather refreshing.
One company that has started a body positive movement is the company S.L.I.N.K. Jeans. I found out about them VIA instagram and have been a huge fan ever sense. Located in California, they send body positive vibes all over the world. From their sexy raw images of women sizes 12+, to their fit you like a glove premium plus denim, as well as their countless tees and hoodies with body positive sayings/images I can't help but feel empowered. Everytime I put on my "Slink it" hoodie, I feel exactly how they wish their customers would feel. Sexy (S) Loveable (L) Intelligent (I) Noticeable (N) and Kind (K). Their styles are full of self love and empowerment as well as made with the most comfortable materials.
